Investigating the Relationship between Alexithymia and Communication Skills with Emotional Divorce in Employed Couples

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Alexithymia and communication skills with emotional divorce in working couples in Ardabil.
Research Method: The method of this research is descriptive-correlational. In terms of purpose, this research is applied. The statistical population of the present study includes all couples working in Ardabil. The research instruments were: Toronto Alexithymia Scale (1994), Queendom (2004) Communication Skills Test and Gottman's Emotional Divorce Questionnaire (2008).
Results: The relationship between Alexithymia (0.545) and emotional divorce (0. 635) with communication skills at level 0.1, It is meaningful. The relationship between emotional divorce and Alexithymia (0.663) At level 0.1, It is meaningful.
Conclusion: The correlation coefficient results show that there is a significant relationship between Alexithymia and Communication Skills with emotional divorce. It means that when communication skills is high, the amount of emotional divorce will be less; but when Alexithymia is high, the amount of emotional divorce will be high.
