Abstract

In this study, the effectiveness of parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) and their combination on cognitive-emotional regulation, post-traumatic growth and parent-child relationship of adolescents with problematic sexual behaviours were compared.

Methods: The sample consisted of 30 female students(10-13 year) with problematic sexual behaviours studying in schools in Guilan province in the academic year of 2023-2024, who were identified based on Sexual Behaviour Checklist and clinical interview, and were randomly placed in three experimental groups (10 students in each group). To measure variables, Child and Adolescent Cognitive-Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, Post-Traumatic Growth Questionnaire and Marschak Interaction Method Form were used. After completing the questionnaires, the treatment sessions began. The pre-test, post-test design with three test groups was used, and data analysis was done using ANKOVA in SPSS.27 software.

Results: The results showed a significant difference between the experimental groups in positive and negative emotional regulation and parent-child relationships (p≤0.05, F=6.87, F=4.20, F=10.15). There was not a significant difference between the experimental groups in post-traumatic growth (p≥0.05, F=0.45).

Conclusions: This paper could offer a clinical insight of individual and family factors into treating PSB symptoms in adolescents.
